Subject Intent for Physical Education
At the Annunciation Catholic Infant School our PE curriculum aims to develop pupils’ knowledge skills and understanding to perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities. Physical education is offered to each child as an important part of their total education. These include dance, games, gymnastics and athletics. PE promotes an understanding in our pupils of their bodies in action and an appreciation they are a gift from God. We aim to enable pupils to make informed choices about physical activity throughout their lives by promoting positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. Our main aim is to develop pupils knowledge skills and understanding through a range of creative, energetic and enjoyable activities. Pupils in EYFS are encouraged to develop confidence, control of the way they move, and care in the handling of tools and equipment. Throughout the EYFS, all pupils are given the opportunity to undertake activities that offer appropriate physical challenge both indoors and outdoors.
We have a spacious and well equipped gymnasium where children are taught gymnastics, games and athletic skills and dance. This helps to promote a positive attitude towards health and fitness and an awareness of and ability to co-operate with others.
